An American Haunting Returning Soon

To be released May 5th, 2006

The much anticipated movie by director Courtney Solomon, (starring Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek, Rachel Hurd-Wood, and James D'Arcy) is soon to be released.

"An American Haunting" chronicles a series of allegedly true events that occurred around 1817, involving the family of John Bell, a Port Royal(Robertson County), TN settler. Possibly the most famous haunting in history, many attempts have been made to capitalize on the popularity of the tale of The Bell Witch and there have been just as many attempts to debunk it. Whether or not we believe in spirits, hauntings, or this version of events in particular, the tale of The Bell Witch is a valuable piece of TN folklore and history, and this reenactment (starring some very good American actors, among others), not to be missed!

From the Goodspeed History of Tennessee (1886):

"A remarkable occurrence, which attracted widespread interest, was connected with the family of John Bell, who settled near what is now Adams Station about 1804. So great was the excitement that people came from hundreds of miles around to witness the manifestations of what was popularly known as the "Bell Witch." [...]That all this actually occurred will not be disputed, nor will a rational explanation be attempted. It is merely introduced as an example of superstition, strong in the minds of all but a few in those times, and yet not wholly extinct."
